Department Manual
Initial Articles to be Disregarded in Title Entries

Purpose: To list initial articles to be disregarded in title entries, so that titles can file correctly in the catalog. These articles need to have the correct filing indicators set or be dropped from the entry, depending on the MARC field in which they are entered. For more information on this, see Filing Indicators for Monographic Records.

For steps on entering diacritics, see Entry of Diacritics on Voyager.

Note: There are no initial articles in the Slavic languages--Russian, Polish, Czechoslovakian, Ukranian, White Russian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croation, Slovenian, Macedonian, Slovak, Wendic, or Latin.
