Binding
Preparing Music for Binding
Place all items from the music shelf on a booktruck.
Assign the next number from the binding shipment log to this shipment;
record the number, shipping date and type of material on the log.
Write the shipment number, type of material and shipping date
on a new shipment record slip.
Each book will need a typed ticket. Give color as black
(990) for all items.
Product type will be 25.
Inspect each volume for the following:
Both author and title are properly marked
Call number is written on page after title page
Valuable information on outsides or insides of covers - Photocopy
or mark to Bind -in-Covers
Physical format (single piece, folded pages, etc.) All
items with more than one piece should be set aside for a different
treatment. See PROCEDURE FOR ARCHIVAL ENCLOSURES.
OCR # on page with call number
Special Instructions:
Give specific title, call number and special instructions
for the volume.
Pocket material:
- Remove material. Measure size and mark binding ticket
Make pocket_____inches (height)X_______(width)X______inches
(depth). Always give measurements in same order.
- Mark all pocket material with OCR number, book title,
call number and shipment number. Place in file drawer for
pocket material.
Foldouts -- write on ticket Watch for foldouts
Narrow gutters -- write on ticket Watch narrow gutters.
Place binding ticket in book.
If item has giftplate see PROCEDURE FOR GIFTPLATES.
Remove all spiral bindings and use rubber band to hold pages together.
When all volumes have been checked, fill out both shipment slip
and Product Code sheet for shipment. Write number of items in shipment
on shipment log and on each sheet.
On automated library system, locate a "Blank" Binding Patron ID
number. (See CHARGING PROCEDURES). Write the Patron ID number on
the shipment record slip.
Charge each book out on automated library system. Make sure that
each charge registers. Be sure ticket count and number of charged
items match.
Prepare box labels and box materials. Music is product type 25.
Fill in bindery shipment log with number of boxes, product code,
piece count and shipment number.
Product Code sheet is placed in box with materials for the bindery.
File small shipment slip in Monographs /Paperbacks drawer of the
outstanding shipment file.
