Binding
Giftplates


Giftplates are prepared by the branch or the gift receiving unit. If possible the giftplate will be attached in the book before cataloging. It should not be placed on the inside cover if the book is to be bound. If it can not be attached before binding it should be in an envelope inside the book.

Books being bound for the first time

Preparing book for bindery.
  • If giftplate is not attached in book, place giftplate in envelope or attach to paper. Write on envelope or paper OCR number, call number and title and binding shipment number.
  • Charge book to binding shipment.
  • Keep paperwork with binding shipment slip in drawer.
  • Books being rebound

    Preparing book for bindery.
  • Photocopy the bookplate inside the front cover of the book.
  • Write the book's title, call number and OCR number on the copy along with the shipment number.
  • Charge the book to the binding shipment as usual
  • Place the copy with the binding shipment slip in the drawer.
  • Checking book on return from bindery

  • Look through all materials with binding shipment slip to find giftplate materials.
  • Using call number and title, match giftplate to book. Using a Gluestick moisten top 1/2" of giftplate. Glue on center of front inside cover.
  • Discharge book with others from shipment.
  • If the book is not found in shipment use the OCR number to find the book. Is this the correct patron, is the book missing from the shipment, has it already been checked-in and sent to the stacks? When book has been found, place the giftplate in the book as described above.
