Articles are published in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Types of materials indexed include articles, books, government documents, conference reports, grey literature, and Internet materials. Newspapers and newsletters are not indexed.

Palmer's indexes The Times of London newspaper between 1790 and 1905, making it an invaluable resource for the study of any aspect of British life during this period. It is searchable by keyword, page number, main heading and date range. Though it is not full text, Palmer's Index does also enable users to judge context by listing the content of each page in the original print edition. The Times newspaper for this period is available on microfilm in Microforms – 214 Hale Library.
